Spring is here

It feels like we have been busy busy busy lately.  A couple of weeks ago we had spring break--which doesn't really mean much for the preschoolers but for my part in the before/after school program (ARK) it changed quite a bit.  I ended up working at ARK with the grade school kids for the entire morning.  My afternoon was back with the preschool kids as normal.  Carrie's schedule didn't really change at all.

What else...
  • We've seen Orca whales for the last week pass through the channel.  We first saw them through our living room window.  One day we got to sit and watch them for about an hour and a half from the shore.
  • Came very very close to seeing our first bear.  Heard there was one bear on the edge of the mission property so we raced down in our car and waited for it to come out of it's hiding spot.  We were supposedly within 10 ft of the bear but we weren't able to see it.  The bear outlasted us and we went back home after it got too dark.
  • Took a day boat ride on the mission boat to a neighboring island (Woody island).  Got real close to some Sea Lions and learned that they are enormous and they smell awful.
  • Enjoyed times with the new friends we are making, playing games, and sharing meals.  Look forward to many more times like these.
  • Enjoyed many many days of sunshine...until today when it snowed all day.
  • The days are getting longer!  It stays light until about 9:00 pm.
  • Traveled to the furthest part of Kodiak Island you can drive to.
